Buying a vehicle is a big milestone in your life, especially if it’s an expensive one. But for one man in Westmoreland County, his plan of buying a $100,000 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee didn’t go according to plan… because he tried to use a fake ID.

According to the Jim Shorkey Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat dealership general manager, the man arrived in the afternoon asking to buy a new vehicle. He said he wanted to buy a new Jeep, but he wasn’t going to put any money down. And apparently, he was also trying to use a fake license to buy the vehicle.

Once the manager realized the license was fake and this man was acting suspicious, he called the police. But when the police arrived, the man went to the bathroom and escaped to run across the street. He ran into the woods and the police search had to resume the next morning.

Fortunately, the man was finally caught the following day and brought in for questioning at the police station. And while he didn’t get his new Jeep, he did sustain plenty of bruises and scratches from his time in the woods.

How Car Dealerships Can Benefit from ID Readers

When customers want to buy a car, it’s important for car dealerships to make sure they’re really who they say they are. With about 218 million people in the U.S. having driver’s licenses in 2015, using barcode scanner ID card machines can help dealerships quickly verify the legitimacy of a license.

Using an ID scanner machine can be beneficial in numerous ways. First, it’s quick and convenient, making the overall process easier for both the staff and the customer. Secondly, barcode scanner ID card machines can quickly upload the information on the ID into the data system so the dealership has all of the correct information stored. And in doing this, they can use the information to verify a purchase and send data to banks and the DMV as needed.
With the right ID scanner equipment, car dealerships can make sure their customers are who they really say they are and make the overall process of uploading customer information quick and easy.
